According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have reached a complete personal agreement with young player Jeremy Jacquet (20 years old), Stade Rennais centre back, who is their clearest and most advanced target to strengthen the defence during the current winter transfer window.
Romano confirmed that the contract is fully ready from the player's side, and that Jacquet is extremely excited about joining Stamford Bridge in January rather than waiting until the summer, with an official Chelsea delegation having already made a direct visit to France to accelerate negotiations.
Key details according to Fabrizio Romano:
- Rennes are demanding a new club record fee of around €65 million (potentially rising to €70m according to some reports).
- Chelsea's current offer is below the requested amount, keeping negotiations ongoing at a high pace between the two clubs.
- The player clearly prefers Chelsea, despite previous interest from major clubs such as Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
Jacquet, who stands out with his impressive height (over 190 cm), excellent ball-playing ability from the back, strength in aerial duels, and defensive intelligence, is considered one of the most exciting young defensive talents emerging in Europe.
This interest fits perfectly into Chelsea's new strategy under manager Liam Rosenior to strengthen options with high-potential young players in the defensive line.
Current status (per Romano's latest update): The agreement with the player is complete, and the only remaining obstacle is the financial gap between the two clubs. If a compromise can be reached soon, we could witness one of the standout deals of the January window in the Premier League.
Will Chelsea succeed in convincing Rennes to lower their demands?
The next few days will be decisive.
